| Holiday Vision and Rituals
by Red Bear The Holiday Season is approaching. Take a few moments to reflect on past holidays. In this contemplation look deeply at how you experience past holidays. Ponder how the holidays impacted on your life and the lives of those you love. The Holiday Season is approaching. What is your VISION for the holidays? Take a few moments imagining it is January 2nd, 2007. Imagine how you want to feel about the past Holiday Season. Imagine what you wanted to experience during the Holiday Season. Imagine what you truly wanted to give and share with others. The Holiday Season is approaching. Take a few moments to have a VISION that this Holiday Season will NOT be made up of stress and anxiety, of depression and despair, and of resentment, bitterness and judgment. Take a few moments to have a VISION that this Holiday Season will not be based on how much you buy, how much you spend, and how much shopping and wrapping you do in a frantic, frenzied financial and emotional nightmare. For many, many years now, starting in August, I ponder what I want to create and make for the people I love and care about. Deciding on, making and giving the gifts I make is a very important ritual of the Holiday Season for me. Making and giving gifts is a wondrous, delightful and joyful expression of creativity, meaning and Love…rather different than buying presents. The Holiday Season is approaching. What are the RITUALS that you share with those that you love and care about during the Holiday Season? If the Rituals are joyful, meaningful, and truly alive in laughter, giving and passion then continue them. If not, find new RITUALS….create new RITUALS that call on your creativity, meaning, depth, humor and love. Is there SACREDNESS in the RITUALS you have for the Holiday Season? If yes, celebrate these sacred rituals. If not, create new sacred rituals for the Holidays. The Holiday Season is approaching. For many people, Holidays can be a time of pain and suffering. Holidays can be a time of grief and sadness. The Holiday Season can be very lonely. Reach out to those you know have difficulty with the Holiday Season…invite them to create new holiday rituals with you or to join in on your holiday rituals. There are many people who have very little and the Holiday Season can be very difficult. Reach out and give with a generous, loving heart and Soul to those who may need your time, financial help and LOVE. Making truly giving to others a vital, essential ritual for your Holiday Season. Over the years, I have suggested to many people who find themselves alone or choose to be alone for the Holidays that they volunteer their time to help others during the Holidays; I’ve been thanked many times over for this recommendation. The Holiday Season is approaching. I am excited and looking forward to the Holiday Season. The Winter Solstice Gathering we have each year is one of the highlights of the year. Everyone entertains in some way…. singing … dancing… comedy… poetry reading … storytelling … and more. Everyone brings delicious food. Oh, there is lots of joy, laughter and love. Humbly, I have created many rituals for the Holidays that make the holidays a time of sacredness, laughter, joy, meaning, sharing and Love. The Holiday Season is approaching. May your Holidays flow with creativity, sharing, giving, rituals, sacredness, laughter, meaning, joy and Love. |

This is my first newsletter being posted on my website with no paper copy being sent. This newsletter has a sampling of some of the written materials used in exercises and rituals from the September 2006 Devil’s Lake/Spirit Lake Retreat on the Four Elements. This Retreat was truly amazing and incredible with undergraduates from Beloit College, College of Du Page and College of Fashion Merchandising and Design as well as a graduate student from National Lewis, a high school English teacher and an architect. This newsletter is dedicated to those who went on this life affirming and life enhancing experience and to my Soul-Mate, Desert Lizard, who co-guided the Retreat with me. It was good…. very good! | Oh Earth Mother
by Red Bear In the cities and suburbs, the strip mall world, where sometimes I can breath and sometimes I gasp for air Humans are so big--- oh man, people are enormous Well, very tiny, insignificant and small too But what humans have made from iron and steel and sweat and blood and tears and suffering and degradation and greed are so big, enormous, gargantuan For is not the Earth a space where man is to make his mark marking, scarring, destroying, cannibalizing for his survival, comfort and pleasure What mountain can compare to skyscrapers What waterfall can compare to fountains What bird can compare to jet planes What dolphin or whale can compare to boats or ships What wolf can compare to perfectly coiffured show poodles For man is vastly superior to all else on this resource for human life on this natural Wal-Mart called Earth Someday, not tomorrow or the next---but who knows man will not have soil to grow food, nor water to drink nor air to breath Someday, not tomorrow or the next---but who knows man will learn science and technology can’t rescue him like an all powerful human created God from what he has done to the Earth Someday, not tomorrow or the next---but who knows man will learn you can’t breath money or possessions nor can you drink greed or power nor can you grow food in arrogance or hatred nor can you make love with illusions and delusions Oh Earth Mother I cry--- my tears of pain flow from my Soul Oh Mother Earth You have given us everything to be truly alive You freely provide everything to nourish and nurture our bodies, our minds, our psyches, our hearts, our Souls Oh Earth Mother You teach and guide us to Beauty, Wildness, Strength, Softness, Structure, Chaos, Wisdom and Love Oh Mother Earth I thank you for your blessed gifts Meegwetch--- a 1,000, a million meegwetches Thank you for giving me eyes that can truly see, ears that can truly hear and listen, a throat that gives me true voice, hands to touch and be touched, a stomach to be a warrior, a heart to love and be loved, feet to walk softly and gently with Oh Earth Mother I am your creature just as all the creatures of the Earth, Water, and Air are Thank you for guiding me to find in the Oneness of your Soul is mine |

| MOVIE RANT by Red Bear I love movies. Movies have always been a great escape for me. I enjoy a wide variety of movies. For quite awhile, it has been more and more difficult to find movies that are worth seeing. The obsession that Americans have with sadistic, sick, degrading, demeaning, and brutally violent movies is just terrible and horrible. The compulsion Americans have with stupid, banal “comedy”, pathetic unromantic “love” stories, violent kill and blowup crap, and sadistic, torturous evil is enough to make me scream and cry. Is this a sign of how numb and dead people are that they need these psychically toxic bomb blasts of stupidity and evil to feel alive? Millions and millions of dollars are spent on movies. Why or why can’t a few bucks be spent on good writing for these movies? Millions and millions spent on movie special effects and the dialogue and story are pathetic. What happened to finding actors and actresses that can act? I don’t care whether the stars of movies are celebrities, who they married to, who they are sleeping with, who they are divorcing, the cost of their houses and cars or anything else, please find actors and actresses who can act! Sometimes, I want to scream at the movie screen. WHAT ABOUT A STORY? WHAT ABOUT SOME DIALOGUE? WHAT ABOUT SOME ACTING? Movies have become quite expensive to see. So come I have to see 25 minutes of meaningless, terrible, pathetic ads and ads and ads? I’ll pay more if I could just see good previews and good movies. Is it just me or do some movie previews have every good scene in the movie in them…so when you see the movie you feel sucker punched? I don’t feel it should be a crime to silence in anyway necessary people who eat popcorn and candy and rustle stuff like they have been stuck on the desert and are having their first meal in a decade. I am overwhelming shocked at hearing my so-called fellow humans laughing at movies that aren’t funny, especially when they are infantile or sick and disgusting, or relishing sadistic brutality and degradation like it was wonderful catharsis. I feel it should be a felony for parents to bring children to movies that cause psychic harm to their young Souls. What about the groups and groups of teenagers who tired with shopping malls that are their first home use movie theatres as their second home? Where are their parents? Unfortunately, it is nowhere more evident of our sibling society then teenagers without elders just running rampant at movie theatres. If I was from another planet, and many of those that know me tell me I am, I would feel based on movies that the Earth has gone mad and needs to be either given a huge time out for a long, long time, or sent to deprogrammers because of sick brainwashing, desensitizing and conditioning, or should be cleansed and started over again. What is with the terrible, horrible music that accompanies movies? Is this nauseating excuse for music suppose to cover up how bad the movie is or be so distracting that I develop amnesia and just sit in dumb stupor unto the credits come on? Sometimes, I feel so robbed of life, time, and money when I leave the movie theater. Other times, I feel so happy to be out of theatre to be able to become alive again like the movie theater was a prison and I have been released at last; or perhaps it’s, movies are a psychic graveyard for the living dead, hungry ghosts and unburied corpses that make up lots and lots of people in our culture. We sit in our coffin movie chairs, munching popcorn at deafening decibels, until the movie ends and we leave as vampires to go back to so-called lives. It is not because I am 53 years old or judgmental, it is just true that RAP is not music and no one with an IQ of a twig wants to hear RAP as a soundtrack at movies. Another note when the movie takes place in the past there should NOT be a modern music soundtrack. This is like putting a modern wrapper on food from hundreds of years ago… the food is rotten and the wrapper is annoying, unnecessary, misleading, idiotic and moronic. How about stopping making pathetic remakes after awful remakes of good movies? Making pathetic and idiotic remakes after remakes of bad movies is pure insanity. Same goes for bad sequels after bad sequels after bad sequels of originally bad or good movies. Has the Entertainment Movie Industry run of out even a mere drop, a tiny shard, a small fragment of creativity and art? Or, is the Entertainment Movie Industry just giving Americans what they want to see and hear (and have become)? These are scary, very scary thoughts. So I try and try to select movies well and about out of five is worth seeing as they don’t cause me trauma. If I don’t have a tic or scream and yell or gasp for fresh air after I go to the movies, I feel it has been a successful outing. The good thing is I realize I must see less movies. Keep reading good books and see more plays. So it ain’t all bad…at least, that is what I try to tell myself because I love movies and I want to go to movies that a humane being with a mind that can think and a Soul that has is creative, artistic, wise, intuitive and Loving can enjoy. Maybe, I am from another planet… I sure hope that planet has good movies (with no ads, no popcorn, no Rap, no bad stories, no bad dialogue, no bad actors, no pathetic comedies, no unromantic “love” stories, no blowup-blowup-blowup-kill-kill movies, and, especially, no degrading, demeaning, sadistic, brutal evil movies with their endless remakes and sequels…I am repeating myself which people from my planet often do). |

| Do you feel joyful as a parent? Do you get joy from parenting? Finding joy as a parent and finding joy in parenting is a great gift. It is a gift that every parent needs to give themselves and their children.
So much of parenting today is focused on getting one’s children to be independent. Far too much parenting emphasizes pushing, pulling, rewarding and punishing one’s children towards the objective of their becoming financially independent. Too often the sole goal of parents is to somehow make their children able to function independently in the world. One wants, needs and demands their child become a “successful adult”. This has many parents seeing their children and adolescents as “future adults in training”. This creates a great deal of stress and anxiety for the parent and the child. This can also create a great deal of depression, despair, anger and rage for the parent and the child. Parenting becomes a very pressured process without joy for the parent or the child. It makes parenting into a job and a means to an end rather than a work of art. For one as a parent may erroneously depend on knowledge from others and books, but parenting is a work of art. Parenting is a work of art in process. The best parenting comes from learning from experience and drawing on one’s own intuitive wisdom to make their parenting into a joyful artistic expression of aliveness. To find joy in parenting, a parent must learn to parent each child differently as there is no one road, standard or rule book for parenting; what “works” for one child may fail dismally for another. Further to find joy as a parent, a parent must learn to continually change, grow, develop and transform throughout their life cycle and the life cycle of their child. To find joy as a parent and joy in parenting, a parent learns to parent in the present moment---the here and now--- rather than bring in lots old baggage from the past or borrowing baggage in future projections. Clearly, there will be time of frustration and disappointment as parent. At times, parenting will cause a great deal of pain for the parent and their child. However, parenting doesn’t need to cause suffering for the parent or suffering for the child; any form of abuse will spiral into terrible, awful suffering for the parent and child. Clearly, the relationship between the parents will dramatically and profoundly impact on each parent, parenting and their children. If there is no joy in the parents relationship and the parent as an individual isn’t joyful in the relationship, joy in parenting will be very limited or nonexistent. However, there must be a parental path to find joy. There must be a journey as a parent that is joyful. Being joyful as a parent is a wondrous gift you give your Self and Soul as parent and a delightful gift you give your child’s Self and Soul. |

The Song of Water can be the cryin’ blues, rippin’ rock, pissin’ punk, kickin’ country western… Water can burst into jazz or classical song. Water is the simple sound of one instrument. Water is the sound of the marching band. Water is the sound of the big band and the great orchestra. Water is the sound of FLOW Water is music…. Water is Flowing music Water is Song. |
